Disc Golf Training Weight

 

     Training with weights is not new to the sport of disc golf.  The throw may or may not require a full-body commitment.  With that in mind, you can segment the throw into different categories.  The Putt, for example, usually requires arm movement and weight shift, with your feet remaining somewhat stationary.  A step or jump putt may be used if outside the 30m circle.  Another example is the Stand Still throw which requires very little foot movement.  D'CLIP will help isolate and strengthen relevant muscles to improve your game.  D'CLIP, 180g, safely attaches to your disc via a weighted, spring-loaded clip.  It can be used on putters, mid-ranges, and drivers allowing grip-specific and shot-specific strength training. 

 

Putting     

     Forearm, wrist, and grip strength are essential to throwing a disc. Putting is no exception. If your putts fall short and to the left, D'CLIP can strengthen muscle memory by improving the "pop" needed and keeping the outer edge up. Starting close to the basket is the best way to dial in movement. By strengthening this movement, you will soon find that the 5' putt effort is the same at 15', then even at 20' with the proper training. This, in turn, will reduce putting strokes, give you confidence, and make the comebacker a thing of the past. It is advised, when learning something new, to reach out to more skilled persons who can help guide you with the correct form. Form is the main building block to strengthening and fine-tuning your putt.  


Stand-Still     

    The stand-still throw happens for many reasons.  One can simply minimize their body movements by choosing a stand-still shot or one may land where there is no other option.   D'CLIP, when attached during training, facilitates muscle memory strengthening that gives the user an awareness of their disc which translates to better control. Strong muscle memory allows one to focus on strategy and execution instead of mechanics.  In addition, D'CLIP can prime fast-twitch muscles prior to the throw keeping the need to throw hard at a minimum.  Strengthening relevant muscles to the point where 85% effort produces a desired distance, will inevitably help with control of the disc.

 

Personal Use of D'CLIP

    When I first discovered D'CLIP, I immediately thought Baseball bat donut.  My very first impression when attached to my disc was "Wow".  It really felt good swinging it around, stretching muscles very rarely stretched.  It is advised not to use with 100% effort so as to not hurt oneself.  Slow swinging at first gradually turned to some pretty good swings.  The safety latch and non-slip pads ensure safe use at even 90% (my 90%),  My biggest takeaway from this is the way the Max weight disc felt after removing D'CLIP and how far it flew with a relaxed throw.  Angle control has improved for me for I have better outer edge awareness when using it.  I also noticed with use(2 mos) that my grip is no longer tight, rather its firm, and the release of the disc feels more natural to me.  Putting has greatly improved for me since using it on my putter.  Not only is it making shorter putts easier and creating a "pop", but I am also able to use D'CLIP as a guide on my putter during my routine and most notably during practice.  I do believe the time spent on my couch using it attached to a disc has greatly strengthened my forearm, wrist, and grip as well.

 

     I have been using D'CLIP for about 2 months.  I would definitely recommend this to fellow disc golfers to buy or ask for as a gift since it can be used on just about any PDGA disc.  I look forward to seeing how much better I can be at this wonderful sport.
